OUR STORY

A long road, rail and air trip with two starting points; Montreal and London, ended at one one destination; Bridport, Dorset.

OUR STORY

A long road, rail and air trip with two starting points; Montreal and London, ended at one one destination; Bridport, Dorset.

WHAT DID WE DO?

We created something special; a café, a coffee-house, a juice bar, a shop.

We took scraps of inspiration from all our favourite places and shook them up in a jam jar. We saw what it looked like and we shook it again. And again. Then we searched for the most amazing people around to help us shape, model, paint, stick and build our dream.

We ended up with Soulshine. It looks small from the front, but come inside and you’ll discover our café out back, with its bustling atmosphere, bright colours, delicious smells and sunny courtyard.

COFFEE

We schooled ourselves in speciality coffee and learned from independent roasters and expert baristas. Armed with this knowledge, we trained our own baristas and let them loose to play, learn, and discover until they could turn around and teach us. Now our baristas bring in coffees from all around the UK, our favourite roaster is Extract, they roast our delicious house blend. Based in Bristol, they source their coffee themselves and ensure growers receive more for their produce than Fair Trade prices.

FOOD

We love fresh, uplifting, exciting food; salads, sandwiches, lunches, platters. And of course, we love to cook a hearty breakfast as well.

We use green things grown by people from the community who we know and trust. We take care to find producers who truly look after for their livestock. Our butcher is up the road, our halloumi comes from a small organic cooperative. The farmer who supplies our sausages is called Tom and our organic milk comes from Dave’s cows in Somerset. We bake all our own bread using organic flour from a mill in Shaftesbury.

Taking inspiration from our favourite places to eat in the world, we also import ingredients like maple syrup from Ontario for our Canadian pancakes, and Austrian herbal teas for our brews.

JUICES

We dreamed up the most delicious, healthy and energising juices and smoothies we could imagine. Then we found the right juicers and blenders, and the best fruit and veg to bring them to life. Some of our juices give you a health boost, some help you feel summery. They all certainly make you feel great.

ART AND DESIGN

We get very excited about design and in our shop we love to share the awesome new products we’ve come across. From graphic novels and beautiful greeting cards to locally thrown pottery and eco-freindly gadgets.

We also love independent magazines so we built a rack and stocked it with lots of awesome zines, papers and magazines that you can’t find in most places. We believe everyone should read more independent magazines so we like helping people discover them.

CHILDREN

We want to make sure children feel welcome and part of the whole scene, rather than just tolerated. So we’ve designed a little play spot where the kids can hang out or maybe find something to take back to their table. It’s filled with a selection of toys and books that we’ve collected. For months we kept receiving little packages delivered with fisher price characters inside and they all reside there.
